The Challenge
Star Refuse is a leading waste collection specialist in Cornwall. Their legacy website served as a basic digital business card but lacked the visual authority and technical performance required to dominate a competitive local market. It featured a static, text-heavy layout with aged design patterns. Key issues included:
• Static Layout: A rigid grid that didn't feel 'alive' or interactive.
• Performance Bottlenecks: Slower load times due to unoptimized assets.
• Engagement: A lack of clear conversion pathways or trust-building metrics.
• Content Hierarchy: Services like 'End of Tenancy' and 'Builder's Waste' were presented as simple blocks without a cohesive narrative.
The Solution
We performed a complete ground-up redesign focusing on three core pillars: Aesthetic Excellence, Technical Performance, and Conversion Strategy.
1. Modern Visual Identity: We moved away from the basic blocks toward a sophisticated Glassmorphic UI. This included dynamic backgrounds with subtle gradients and 'living' UI elements that respond as the user scrolls, plus micro-animations for a premium feel.
2. High-Performance Architecture: We chose Astro as the core framework. Leveraging Astro’s 'Islands Architecture' ships minimal JavaScript, resulting in near-perfect Lighthouse scores. An SEO-first strategy ensures Star Refuse ranks at the top for Cornwall refuge services.
3. Conversion-Driven UX: We streamlined the user journey with strategic CTAs and a revamped services section that intelligently categorizes Holiday Lets, Block Management, and Builder’s Waste with interactive previews.
