Whealbit · Software company · Penzance, Cornwall
A ground-up rebuild for Cornwall's waste collection specialist, turning a basic digital business card into a fast, premium site built to rank locally.
Drag to compare. The "before" is the previous site as archived by the Wayback Machine.
Star Refuse, a leading waste collection specialist in Cornwall, was trading on an outdated site that worked as little more than a basic digital business card. Slow load times, a rigid grid that never felt alive, and no clear conversion paths or trust signals meant it did not reflect the quality of the service or compete in a busy local market.
We rebuilt the site from the ground up in Astro, using Islands Architecture to keep JavaScript to a minimum and ranking strong for local Cornwall keywords. A sophisticated glassmorphic interface, dynamic backgrounds and scroll-responsive micro-animations gave it real presence, while services like holiday lets, block management and builder's waste were reorganised into a clear journey with strategic calls to action.
A modern, high-performance site that reads as the premium local operator it is, scoring a perfect 100 across Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices and SEO in Lighthouse, and built to keep ranking and converting.
Most visitors arrive on a phone, often on a patchy signal. Every page is designed at phone width before anything else, so the first thing a customer sees loads fast and reads clearly with one thumb.

A cinematic rebuild for the St Ives linen hire and laundry business, giving it the visual authority to win high-end commercial clients.
A perfect 100 on all four of Google's checks: speed, accessibility, best practices and SEO
